This post shows you how to use NTC WebSMS service to send sms to Nepal Telcom cellphones in Nepal for free.
I have been using this tool for almost two years now and many of you might have already heard about it. I have used it to ask friends to come online for a chat and to send them wishes, be it their birthday or Dashain. It has worked very well for me, I send SMS asking my parents to call me and within few minutes I receive their call!
By using the method presented in this post, you can send sms from anywhere in the world to Nepal (and only Nepal).

Step 1: Register
In order to use this service, you need to create a WebSMS account with NTC. NTC provides this service only to people who subscribe to NTC mobile service (either pre-paid or post-paid) or NTC Internet. So you need to find someone in Nepal who has subscribed to one of the services and ask them to send the required information which is discussed below.
Subscribers having Nepal Telecom active internet account can any time register to WebSMS with their AdminID and Password.
Active post-paid mobile subscribers of Nepal Telecom can any time register to WebSMS service with their Mobile Number and PUK. Ask the person in Nepal to type PUK and send SMS to 1400. NTC will send PUK number back to their cell-phone which they will have to send to you along with their mobile number (via e-mail or phone).
Pre-paid mobile subscribers need to send their Mobile Number and SIM SERIAL NUMBER (which can be found in the sim card) to you so that you can register.

Once you have this information, go to NTC WebSMS Registration page to register.

Step 2: Log In
Once your registration is complete, NTC will provide you a password. Use that the mobile number as the SMS Username and the password to log in at the SMS User Login Form.

Step 3: Send SMS
If you successfully complete steps 1 and 2, you will see a page where you can send SMS to multiple numbers at a time. WebSMS allows you to create a contact list and preset messgaes so that you do not have to retype anything.
There is a maximum limit of 10 SMS per day and therefore do send SMS to the loved ones at the beginning before running out of the quota for the day!
