Ganthan Beta Officially Launched

November 17th, 2008

Dear Rangeen Chara community members, we faced two major problems with the Pligg framework we used for Ganthan and we have decided to change the framework altogether. Firstly, the framework turned out to be prone to spamming and secondly, we could not easily change its look to match with the main theme of As a result, Ganthan is inactive until further notice.
We are determined about the fact that the Nepalese community needs a content sharing network and we are working our best to build it. Ganthan will be back soon in a new look. We appreciate your support and patience until then.

Main article:
Rangeen Chara was half-dead for past few weeks. I did receive words of encouragements and criticism during the period. My response: “It’s the silence before the storm.” To prove it right, today I am announcing the official release of Ganthan, a social content sharing network for the Nepalese community. The social content sharing network concept may be new for many of you but such networks have been in use and popular for couple of years now; being just one example.

In Ganthan, users join the network (by creating an account) and share the content from different web-sites that they think will be interesting and/or useful to the Nepalese community. Other visitors can vote the content if they like it therefore improving the content’s position in the network. By using this simple voting strategy, good content on the Internet emerge on top of the network so that everyone in the community is aware of it. The network therefore provides a large audience to good publishers and good content to visitors.

The best stories from Ganthan network are displayed in Rangeen Chara homepage along with number of votes the content has earned so far. Clicking on the title of the content will take the users to the Ganthan page for the content which provides more details for the content. Users can also go to the Ganthan Network by visiting the URL: It is here that the users can create an account, log in to the network, vote for existing content or submit a new content.

If you are a blogger or a web-site owner and would like to enable your visitors to easily submit and vote the content in Ganthan, you can paste one of the following scripts in your website where you want the vote button to appear:

1. The following code is used for a single vote button on a website in Nepali:

<script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script>

2. The following code is used for multiple vote buttons on a website in Nepali:

<script type=”text/javascript”>submit_url = ‘THE URL TO THE CONTENT’;</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script>

3. The following code is used for a single vote button on a website in English:

<script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script>

4. The following code is used for multiple vote buttons on a website in English:

<script type=”text/javascript”>submit_url = ‘THE URL OF THE CONTENT’;</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=””></script>

Here is how the buttons look like when working.

So publishers and readers, lets come together and create some BUZZ in Ganthan. If you have any questions or comments regarding Ganthan, just drop a comment below.

    Dear anonymous visitor,

    Thanks for the information.

Neither of those sites are in operation as of today. Let us all know if there any such networks actively running?

We feel that there is a stark need for a content sharing network for the Nepalese community. We at Rangeen Chara will try our best to establish and expand Ganthan to meet this need. Your participation will be highly appreciated!
