FIFA World Cup 2010 Facebook App

April 22nd, 2010

With only 49 days remaining for FIFA world Cup 2010, the world cup fever has started to spread among people. Many web sites and blogs now have some coverage of the world’s biggest sports event; being held in South Africa this year from 11 June to 11 July. A lot has changed since the last world-cup when it comes to peoples life-style, Facebook was in its infancy and Twitter wasn’t even born!

Football being one of the most popular sports in Nepal, we decided to do something to engage our members this year. We have built a Facebook app using which you can see the teams that are likely to play with each other and based on that choose your World Cup 2010 winner. This kind of application is commonly called a Bracket App or a Tie-Sheet App.

You begin by choosing the winners and runners-up for the group matches and then proceed to bracket games all the way to the Finals. The application shares your selection for the World-Cup winner via your Facebook Wall. You can also invite your friends to try the application after you share your selection. “With only 49 days remaining for FIFA world Cup 2010, the world cup fever has started to spread among people……….” This is the first line of the article about FIFA World Cup 2010 written on this page. At the time I am writing this comment its just 9 days left for the tournament to begin.

What I want to suggest is that while writing articles (any) it is better to select and use word(s)/sentence(s) that give(s) the correct sense of meaning every time. For example rather than being so specific about the remaining number of days, “49″, it would have been better if there was “few” instead of “49″ and its not not-possible but in my point of view its not in general practice to come everyday and make it 48,47,46… and so on.

It looks/feels so clumsy while reading and might give a negative message(not serious though) to the users/visitor(s) of Rangeen Chara so make actually “Rangeen” by considering these small but important things because I believe such things makes difference.

Community members are total Rangeen Chara members; community friends are the group of people who are your Facebook friends who also happen to be Rangeen Chara members.
